Well, we made the wrong call yesterday, sorry 😕
Found myself with some free time today, so I decided to share a few thoughts…
First, not every website/app showed low percentages for precipitation, see below. When you see a 50% chance of rain from even one site, that’s enough to take pause and think about how the timing will affect your night. Will it rain as spectators are driving up the road and decided to turn around? Will it rain after everyone has paid and the place gets flooded and you have to send everyone home? Will it rain right after our 5 race rain check limit and piss everyone off because they won’t get a rain check? Will it rain right before the 5 races and we have to let everyone in for free with a rain check next week, yet still have payroll, insurance, and other start up expenses to pay twice?
Second, some of you are really upset when we decide to cancel. We’re the ones risking/losing money regardless of what ends up happening with the weather. It’s flattering that you all have so much fun at the track and can’t bear to miss another night, but losing thousands of dollars will not keep this business open for you to enjoy much longer.
Third, we have people that feel obligated to attend on a weekly basis because we are their closest option or because they are dragged by their family or significant other. To those people, I hope you enjoyed your night off!
Fourth, I can’t speak for my father, but I spent the entire day checking my phone…I live over an hour away and am checking the radar every hour to see if those pop up storms “popped up” (more like pleading with them to pop up to prove we made the right call). Or checking the comment notifications on the rain out post. I’m really understanding now why my mom had so many people banned from the page. Some of you who’ve I let back on are really close to getting banned again…just kidding, kind of. I believe in free speech just as much as the next and will not be the track that bans someone because of their posts on Facebook, but man, some of you are making it really hard for me.
Lastly, just giving everyone enough notice to complain, the track will be closed on August 7th. This is a planned night off so that my kids can visit their other grandparents in Greece. This is a non-negotiable and something I’ve convinced my dad is good for everyone involved. Yes, we do get rain outs off during the season, but having a week where you can plan a vacation or time with your family is important to the drivers, fans, employees and me.
That is all, thanks to anyone who read this whole thing well see you next week 🏁

Given the inconsistencies of the afternoon’s forecast, we’ve decided to cancel racing for Friday 7/10
Any afternoon thunderstorm would soak our already saturated grounds and would negatively affect the track surface.
The cost of doing business and opening up to just turn everyone away is just too much to take the risk. We appreciate everyone’s understanding that these decisions aren’t taken lightly and there are SO many factors involved 😕
Please like and share to spread the word
